  • In Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2009 (09/01/2008 - 09/30/2009), over 776,000* children in Louisiana were eligible for KIDMED services.
  • There were 713** approved KIDMED providers in FFY 09, with over 690,000* preventative screenings performed in FFY 09.
  • Of the over 690,000* screenings performed, over 117,000* children were referred for follow-up care for conditions ranging from life-threatening to the routine.
  • The percent of Medicaid eligible children who have received at least one medical screening in FFY 09 is 72%*, an increase from 66%* the previous year (FFY 08).
  • In addition to receiving a medical screening, over 266,000* children received preventative dental services and over 297,000* children received dental treatment services.
  • Over 77,000* children received Blood Lead Screening Tests. According to the Alliance To End Childhood Lead Poisoning, exposure to lead can cause severe problems including reduced IQ, mental retardation, hyperactivity, learning disabilities, coma, and even death.
  • More than 478,000* children from birth through age 5 years received a developmental assessment screening. The developmental screening assesses the child's growth and development, determining whether or not the child has reached their age-appropriate level of development. Children failing the developmental screening are referred for a complete developmental/psychological evaluation.
